The The Impotence of Proofreading
Let’s test out this forum thingie. Start a topic or comment on one of mine!
Expectations x 2:
Okay, so I admit it. I’ve become addicted to one of the geekiest channels on cable.
Before discovering G4TV, I had no idea how many of my goofy hobbies overlapped with those of techno-nerd gamers all over the world. |
For example, I’ve been collecting comic books off and on since I was a pre-pubescent. (You should check out the recent Secret Invasion series, if you’re a few months behind, like me.) Anywho, G4 has a weekly podcast called “Fresh Ink” that reviews the best comics out each week. (Who knew gamers were also comic collectors?) |
(Now you know why I never have a good suggestion to offer for STAR Time. I’m reading comics instead of books (if you don’t count the Twilight series my niece got me hooked on)). |
So, G4 got me tuned in with my comic book addiction, and then, Heaven only knows why, I started watching this show they have called Ninja Warrior. (Actually I got started with the Women of Ninja Warrior because I was curious.)
This show is strangely addicting as individuals test their “ninja” skills against the obstacle course from heck (the Japanese version of hell)! God knows I’m not a sports fan, but watching people compete against the course is way cool! |
Well, after catching one or two (or a dozen because it was a marathon) of these shows, I saw the ads for other G4 television shows (of course). |
The entirely scandalous and juvenile Attack of the Show (AOTS for short (because geeks around the world love their acronyms)) is a live news, reviews, and interviews show (with strange skits thrown in) aimed at the twelve year-old boy in all of us.
It was their daily feature “Around the Net” that got me hooked. They show the top 5 videos from the web each day, and most of their picks are hilarious (even to me, who’s never had the sense of humor of a 12 year-old boy). Here’s a tame example:
((That’s Kevin Pereira, one of the hosts of the show.))
And then, right after AOTS comes X-Play, a videogame news and reviews show. Watching too much of this show has caused me great financial duress of late (and contributed greatly to my nerd cred). |
First I just invested in a PS3 because it would allow me to watch high def movies (I have a bit of a DVD collection to go with my comics —mostly scifi and fantasy, of course)…
and since my loaner ps2 was stolen when my condo was broken into, I used that loss to rationalize the investment in the gaming half of this snazzy little gizmo. |
But, I have no excuse for the XBox 360. That acquisition was entirely induced by repetitive marketing and commercial advertisements for its games on G4 (plus, I like the controller better). Believe me, the degree of my consumerism is directly proportional to my exposure to marketing. |
Of course, I’m so far behind |
So, if you’ve made it this far, you too can now attest to my complete and inexorable descent into utter dorkdom (as if there was any hope for me anyway).
AND, be warned. Watch G4TV at your own risk. Your pocketbook (and your reputation) may never recover from the onslaught of their advertising.
Don’t forget: Portfolios are due by midnight this Sunday, Dec. 14th!
Attach your two final pieces (your personal essay and your adaptation) to an email and send them to me at haffpint@hero86.org.
