This more represents the world than the road of trials, because although she is struggling, she is struggling agianst the desires, assumptions, and rules of her cultural environment. Though these certainly are trials, we had a general consensus that the struggle to answer the call (initially) was for the most part independent of the road of trials, as it occurs entirely within the world, and before the person has embraced their Heroic status.

I think a lot of parts of this song speak of the Call of the Hero.
"When did you last let your heart decide?" relates to the hero (Jasmine) deciding to follow the call, rather than the stipulations of the world and following their heart, or what they know is true (the hero journey)
"A new fantastic point of view" definitely alludes to the chagnes a hero experiences in leaving the world.
"But when I'm way up here it's crystal clear" almost sounds like the apotheosis to me but maybe that's what the call really is--a mini apotheosis, or the realization that the world was false.
Lastly the title itself is pretty self explanitory. "A Whole New World" or--leaving the world the Hero knew for the new view of the world to start the hero journey.
Good song choice, Haffpint.

I enjoy the overall message and vibe of this song. As far as the Hero Journey goes, this song parallels The Call of the Hero with its lyrics. The song shows that after a Hero accepts his/her call and breaks free from The World, there is an entirely new world to explore. Guardians may have warned you not to leave and told you that it's better to stay within the system, but it's very quickly apparent that these were lies. Another unrelated reason that I like the song is that the lyrics put you in awe of the things we can do with our lives. We are almost unlimited in the things we can do, and we should take full advantage of this and embrace our calls.

Alright. Song is grand. I think this song does a great job describing the internal conflict of someone who is in their belly of the whale. Moses makes it very clear that he does not want to be the one to punish Ramses and the Egyptians, but that God has chosen him to do so. He is being asked to do something that he doesn't want to do, but for a call from God. This is so typical of all heroes. When the hero leaves the world, he/she leaves her comfort zone and has to experience an uncomfortableness. It also shows that in the belly, the hero must learn, to an extent, how to be indifferent when he/she is transforming the world into what it is called to be. Each time God throws another plague on Ramses and the Egyptians, it hurts Moses to stand by and do nothing more than it hurts Ramses to watch his people suffer. However, Moses stands strong, hoping that Ramses will give in, creating a world where neither Egyptians nor Hebrews will have to suffer from the other.

I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!
okay i think this is a great song for the road of trials.

Can it be
I’m not meant to play this part?

This segment perfectly portrays the road of trials because she is questioning her destiny and whether she is truly meant to go down that road. she is on a road of trials because she is facing a major family conflict, and in the movie this eventually pushes her to take drastic measures and pretend to be a man to prove herself (i think.. i haven't seen the movie in awhile!!)

Why is my reflection someone
I don’t know?
Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am
Though I’ve tried

I like this part too, because she is recognizing her trials and isn't hiding from them. she is recognizing that she needs to be herself and find her true being, which may potentially lead to her ultimate happiness.

Again, i love this song and this movie! great choice for the road of trials :)

This song does a great job of portraying the belly of the whale. The people in the song are at there lowest point due to the devastation the plague has brought. The pharaoh didnt care until he was hit by the plague personally. The belly is all about the you vs. the world, or at least the mirage of that through your own struggles. It when all hope is almost lost. The people in the song are experiencing their belly.

This song couldn't do a better job of illustrating the torn nature of the Belly of the Whale. Moses has to decide where his loyalty lies, "betraying" either his brother or God. The Belly of the Whale is about those tough times in our life that prove to be a beneficial experience later on. Of course Moses can't know at the time that his decision to support his people will eventually pay off. It's all about the experience. And the Belly of the Whale is definitely a learning one. In the song, God is sending all of these negative things Moses's way. If we can deal with all of these burdens, we'll eventually be able to see God's intentions of making us better people.
